Why Portable Appliance Test?

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 place a legal responsibility on employers/employees and self-employed persons to comply with the regulations and take reasonable practical steps to minimise the possible dangers of using electrical appliances. To ensure your company’s insurance is valid you must comply with the regulations as insurers assume that you do. If it transpires that you have not been following the recommendations then your insurance company may delay, reduce or possibly refuse to pay any claim.

Will the testing cause any interruption to work?

Actest will do everything possible to minimise disruption to your working environment during testing. Each electrical item does have to be disconnected briefly for testing, we are happy to liaise with you whilst on site to reduce disturbance. We will also be happy to work outside of business hours or weekends, if this would be more convenient.

How often should an appliance be tested?

As there is no exact Law applying to PAT testing (its more of an obligation to make sure you take good precautions regarding electrical safety) it makes sense to protect yourself by implementing a good inspection system for your electrical appliances. Because of this most of our customers opt for an annual test for peace of mind that they are complying with the recommendations. Actest can provide you with inspections as necessary, along with a complete and easy-to-understand record of your results.
