We were contacted by a London school recently who said that a flickering, buzzing classroom light was becoming a major source of distraction for one of their teachers as her students were constantly whingeing about the constant flickering and buzzing coming from certain fluorescent tube lights in her classroom.
The school had already spent significant money on fluorescent tube lights in the last six months and were becoming increasingly frustrated. In short, we suggested LED lighting as a more economical, energy-efficient option as it benefits are three-fold:
- Its power duration is far superior to traditional lighting (it lasts longer (100,000 hours = 11 years operation)
- Reduced power consumption
- Aesthetically pleasing and available in colours which mimic natural lighting
The initial outlay for LED lighting can be more expensive than traditional incandescent lighting but it saves money in the long-run as the need for expenditure on fluorescent tubing and engineer call outs is greatly reduced. The school did not want to proceed with installing LED lighting throughout the entire school in the first instance but were comfortable with trialling the LED lighting in the classroom which currently had the buzzing, flickering lights.
ACtest installed the LED lighting in the school two months and the feedback has been great. The school has commented on the fact that the lighting is so much softer and much more natural looking than the traditional fluorescent tubing, the children are happier and there is no loud buzzing or flickering!
